Just Imagine It Ink Presents The Amazing Work Of Artist Stephhanie Fiumara
Stephanie Fiumara is an artist based in Los Angeles, with family and longstanding roots on the East Coast.
Stephanie’s work examines and interprets serendipitous discoveries made while exploring the environment she lives in. Her travels throughout Europe, time spent living in Africa, and visits to India, and Cuba form the basis for an expansive worldview, from which her inquisitive mind draws upon.
Stephanie’s study of the figure began at an early age, with a fascination with drawing Victorian dress. These drawings filled many a marbled ledger. After completing her studies at the University of Pennsylvania and The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, her early professional career gave her the opportunity to work three dimensionally with the figure, designing apparel and accessories for the Free People brand of Urban Outfitters Co.
Stephanie’s interest in the human figure and the attributes that surround it are a major focus in her work. These attributes exist in her work without giving a specific narrative. Ideas about life and death, nature, place, and existence are present in her work. She is inspired by the artists Bo Bartlett, a mentor at The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Cy Twombly, Euan Uglow, and Kiki Smith, as well as old family portraits.
Stephanie is perpetually searching for a balance between the paint and her subject, moving between the real, and the abstract. A combination of various painting techniques, mark making, and sanding of her surfaces is representative of her painting. Transparent areas and minutely painted details, sharp contrasts, and soft outlines alternate in her work. Stephanie’s work is both vulnerable and distant at the same time.
