I've always loved the private eye and noir genre, and Whitey Roode is a tremendous addition to the pantheon of smart-mouthed PIs. The writing is punchy, the dialogue smart-assed and entertaining, and the plot moves at a great lick. Love it!

Meat - Memoirs of A PsychopathBy Dr Cerys Davies Adult Rated 3.50/5 based on 4 reviews 'The truth cannot be silenced. Thousands of copies already downloaded.' I believe that readers of these memoirs are likely to find them vile and repulsive, reasons that I question the purpose of publishing it. Do we indulge the psychopath? To place him upon a pedestal where he can attain fame, through his killings? Is this what he wants, a pulpit of hate from which to preach? Less 'The truth cannot be silenced. Thousands of copies already downloaded.' Dr Cerys Davies was born in Tenby, a small coastal town of Pembrokeshire, South Wales in 1956. Dr Davies qualified in 1982 at the renowned St Andrew’s University in Scotland. Having completed numerous academic research papers and joint publications throughout her long career, this publication is her first individual work. Dr. Davies works as a clinical personality profiler for a number of Police Authorities in the UK. Her involvement in ‘The Gabriel Investigation’ firmly established her reputation, for which she became known as one of the best criminal psychologists this country has to offer. Dr. Davies works today in her own private clinical practice in Cardiff. She lives with her husband, Nigel, a composer, and their two daughters, Chandelle 19, and Isabella, 21, both of whom now are at university, studying to pursue careers in medicine.
Both girls follow in the footsteps of their mother.
These anonymous memoirs are printed in full, unabridged and unedited. They were discovered by Merseyside Police officer P.C 5427 Brian Wilkinson in the early hours of June 16th 2009 following the routine search of an abandoned property. The preceding ‘Preface’ text was handwritten and attached to the memoirs as a covering letter, while the memoirs themselves were typed. India in the late days of the raj, England in the great slump of the 1930’s; these are the settings of this story of family interaction and decline. James and Dorothy Martinmas appear to inhabit a sort of Garden of Eden in the green hills of souther India. But there are serpents: in the past and in the present. Dorothy’s early childhood loss of her father, James’s early childhood exile from both parents, have left their inevitable distortions creating tensions which threaten the happiness of their marriage and their idyllic situation. And there is a human serpent too, an embittered and sadistic subordinate, who undermines their security and precipitates their exile from this seeming paradise.
This is Somerset Maugham territory, but with the addition of young children, animals and grandparents. In the end the children proceed happily on their way. They provide the leavening in what is otherwise a sombre tale. It is they who carry the torch of life.
A quotation from an early reviewer may give the flavour.
“But to your novel. What I loved about it: the range, the sense of an entire world, the sense of location and beautiful natural descriptions, the easy physicality of the erotic passages, the respect you pay to the integrity of your characters, especially the children, the care you take to identify the period/place/class by its characteristic things… It’s such a loving book.”

Ebook DescriptionFamily: the word is both sweet and bitter. We all have one; it is our common denominator. We're all linked by birth to at least two others, and we spend our lives running to and running from these connections.

Review by: Mabrie Ormes on Feb. 03, 2011
Mr. Stanton's storytelling genius is evident the moment one picks up this book. He takes us instantly into the scene of a field being worked by migrants. His characters are vibrant and compelling. On the other hand, his writing is in sore need of editing. He uses a lot of colloquial language when he is not engaged in evoking a character's speech. In this way he loses important contrasts between the narrator's voice and the voices of his characters. This is a good read because of the intimate pictures it gives of certain ethnic worlds. It could be a much better read if the author would welcome the help of a good editor to bring his style up to the speed of his storytelling capabilities.
Review by: P. Ruperton Jan. 15, 2011
The Migrant, by Nicholas Stanton is a tour de force of fate coincidence and choice- all human dilemmas brought to light in this richly woven tale of family, forgiveness and futility. It is ultimately a refreshing read laced with romance adventure and drama, and bound tightly within the realms of eloquent prose. I highly recommend "The Migrant" to all!

The Long Awaited Audio Book Avaiable Now !!
Published By Blackstone Audio Inc
Ebook Short DescriptionThey suffer for his art... When a number of women are reported missing in Glasgow, the spectre of a previous spate of unsolved disappearances in the city rears its head. Journalist Ray Bissett is drawn into the case when his daughter joins the ranks of the missing. And ambitious police detective Tom Kendrick won't let Ray forget a terrible incident from his past.
Review by: Hans van Otterloo on Mar. 14, 2011 :
Very dark, in a seductive kind of way. It is as much a psychological study as it is a thriller. Highly recommended, but not a book for insomniacs.
Review by: Cara Doran on Mar. 12, 2011 :
A fantastically gripping and unique take on the serial killer genre. All the time I was reading I was imagining what a great movie it would make.
MURDER, drugs, conflicted relationships and art. In his first novel – 'Bone Machines' – Lewis born John Dodds uses the murky world of Glasgow's underbelly to explore the true nature of life and what makes humanity tick.
Following jaded and cynical reporter Ray Bissett as he frantically tries to help the cancerous police forces solve the case of Glasgow's latest and most gruesome serial killer, 'Bone Machines' provides a steaming brew of dark, conflicted emotion as Ray

The Mermaid of Penperro
$ 3.99
Written By : Lisa Cach
Fiction » Romance » Historical
Description
In the 19th century village of Penperro, Cornwall, life is looking dim for the
villagers who rely on smuggling more than fishing for their daily bread. The
Preventive Water Guard has come to town, and stationed a boat in their very own
harbor.
Tom Trewella is not one to be defeated by a little thing like a
boatload of the king’s men. When a singer on the run takes refuge in a cottage
nearby, he devises a plan to distract the tax men from their duties: Penperro
will have a mermaid.
Konstanze will do anything to stay hidden in the
wilds of Cornwall. If that means donning a fish tale and splashing about while
singing operatic arias, she’ll do it. For the proper fee, of course.
What neither of them expect, though, is the danger that can come when a man outside
the law lands a mermaid who is anything but a cold fish.

Beautifully written, engaging story that weaves an amazing tapestry of the main characters' lives and engages you in the journey.

This eBook by John Dodds will have you reading on long into the night, for just when you decide to finish a chapter, you make the mistake of glancing at the next chapter – and then the author has you hooked! A sleepless night. Mercifully, it means you finish the book in record time, because you get totally engrossed in the story.
This is a fast-moving thriller that has a great plot, in fact, it has a few sub plots and you don’t know quite where it is all leading to. John Dodds has a writing style that is easy to read and his characters are believable.
I agree with another reviewer who commented that this book would make a great script for a film. Detective Inspector Kendrick could be another Rebus – or John Hannah and Ken Stott could play two of the other characters with Bill Paterson as DI Kendrick. I think any good actor would love to have a part in Bone Machines. Well worth paying a few cents or pennies to download this excellent eBook.

Description
The chimpanzee communication project known as Simian Says has taught sign language to generations of chimps. Now, by adopting ASL recognition and speech synthesis technology, the project has added voice. In the most sensational trial of the twenty-first century, comes the most anticipated witness in courtroom history. Can an animal change what it means to be human?
Review by: Mark Young on Mar. 18, 2011:
Well-written, intelligent, gripping in parts and quite emotional in others. The book opens with an almost Mike Hammer style of describing the main character's law firm and his participation in an online gaming alter-ego as a private detective. His good-natured banter with his legal assistant, his ex-lover and his prospective clients was quite funny, but also effective at telling us this character is working hard at keeping up a sense of ironic detachment and emotional distance. But then along came the case that broke apart his barriers.
First he falls for his client, then for her chimps, as he takes an unwinnable case and then becomes caught up in the whole thing. The book does an excellent job of portraying the argument for animal sentience and against animal testing and use by humans. The legalese is clear and explained where necessary and the courtroom segments were great. We really come to know the main characters well and even the "villains" in the piece are human and not just all hated, all the time.
Not specifically an animal rights book, nor exclusively a courtroom drama or romantic comedy, this novel is able to blend all these elements in a really great read that keeps you turning pages.
